ADA Rules of the Road

1.  The road captain will lead the group and the drag bike(s) will bring up the rear.

2. It will be the road captains responsibility to ensure that no one gets separated or lost so that all participants of a ride arrive at the destination.

3. The road captain will not start to pull out until the drag bike informs him/her that all of the riders are ready.

4. The road captain will be in complete charge of his/her people.

5. For those who have CB radios, channel 15 will be are standard channel.

6. All bikes will ride with head lights on at all times.

7. When getting on the freeway, the leader will hold his/her speed down and remain in the second lane from the right until informed by the drag bike that all bikes have caught up.

8. The leader will not exceed the posted speed limit.

9. Bikes will ride staggered at all times except on two lane roads where they will ride single file.  If there is an empty space in the staggered formation, move up or over and fill in the gap.  We are all proud of our bikes and we should ride them in a manner that displays that pride and demonstrates our riding  ability.

10. If you plan to pull out of the group early, let the road captain know.

11. If a bike has a problem and has to stop the only bike that is to stop with him/her is the drag bike. The assistant drag bike rider will inform the leader that there is a problem and he/she will stop the group at the first safe place to pull off.

12. If you must drink alcoholic beverages, drink them after the ride is complete.  Drinking while riding with the Association is not safe or acceptable.

13. Let autos cross through our lane. This will help relations between the auto drivers and bike riders.

14. When the leader changes lanes in heavy traffic, all bikes are to change lanes by interlacing with the traffic in the new lane.   Unless there is an obviously slow vehicle in the new lane, do not try to squeeze in front of the same car that the leader pulled in front of.  In most cases, the cars will change lanes and we can join up safely.

15. When passing on the open highway, don't change lanes to pass until you have caught up with the vehicle being passed. This will also create better relations with the other drivers on the road.

16. On long rides, watch the formation.   From past rides we have noticed the the formation starts to become straggled out if the riders get sleepy.  If you get sleepy or see the formation start to break up let the leader know by radio or, let the drag bike rider know and we will stop for a short break.  We would rather be safe and arrive a little later rather than not at all.

17. With the possible exception of a lead bike all side hacks will ride just in front of the drag bike and any bike pulling a trailer will ride just in front of the side hacks.
